Heather Shanks aka Professor MomHi!  I'm Heather Shanks, also known as Professor Mom.

I created Professor Mom as a resource to empower homeschooling parents by offering them knowledge, products and other tools.  I am a homeschooling mom and former university instructor who knows that teaching your child at home is a challenging job.  Solid academics is only one piece of the puzzle.  Raising children up in goodness and faith is just as much of a challenge as the academic piece.  Sometimes it makes all the difference to have a source of inspiration and encouragement. 

That is who Professor Mom is.  A homeschooling mom, just like you.  A source of ideas and information.  A sounding board for questions.  A resource on what works for hands-on learning and a place to source what you need to create the inspired learning experience that you want for your children.

I have combined years of best practice research in academic curriculum, character education, and learning styles to provide moms (and dads:-) with the support they need for the homeschooling journey.  Whether you are new to homeschooling or a veteran, teaching young children or high-schoolers, you will find something for you here at Professor Mom.
